If you write for anyone
other than yourself, you
need an editor.
If you write for
anyone other than
yourself, you need
an editor.
When we read works
that have been well
written and edited, we
absorb eye music that
becomes the soundtrack
for the mind movie.
Can you imagine
a movie without a
soundtrack? It just
wouldn’t be the same!
• You’ve put your heart into your fiction or non-fiction manuscript, your
screenplay, your web copy or your sales copy. The last thing you want
to do is have your reader or sales prospect stumble over your prose.
• When sales copy is sloppy, it’s difficult to take the presentation
seriously. If it’s bad enough, they lose the sale. If they give me careless
copy, it makes me wonder how much care they put into their product.
• If I’m reading a novel and the writer uses incorrect words for what
they mean, the flow feels out of tune. If I must stop and ponder it more
than twice, they lose me as a reader unless it’s an unusually riveting
tale.
• An editor can help you improve your work, make it an easy read,
a smooth, enthralling experience for your reader. It’s a collaboration
between you and your editor. She does not replace your voice, she
helps you present your best work to your reading public.
